The most important by-product of hazelnut processing is the crushed shell. This is a natural eco-fuel that does not go through a chemical process, only a mechanical one, and is a fantastic alternative to other fuels.
Shredded husk is extremely versatile and can be used for heating in businesses or homes, even with normal pellet stoves with significant cost savings for the same calorific value. This corresponds about 4.2 KWh/kg.
